Mac OS X the 'world's safest computing environment'

Mac OS X, the safest OS

The mi2g Intelligence Unit said that the most comprehensive study it has ever undertaken reveals that the 24/7 online computing environment is proving to be the Open Source platform of BSD and Mac OS X based on Darwin, writes the thestar online. The study was conducted over the last 12 months, the deadliest yearly period in terms of malware -- viruses, worms and trojans -- proliferation targeting Windows-based machines, in which over 200 countries and tens of millions of computers worldwide have been infected.

    I hope I'm wrong...

...but something tells me we're not going to see this story on CNet/ZDNet.

We need more 'proper' reports like this so that people will finally take note, and actually adopt OSX. I think the truth is slowly coming out.

    I'm shocked, shocked...

... but, are any of us Mac users surprised?

This is the latest in a recent string of articles that mention Mac OS X and it's resistence to hacker attacks, viruses and malware.

Maybe word about Mac OS X IS finally getting around. No thanks to Apple, I'm sorry to say. Although, on a certain level it's better to keep a low profile and not dare the malcontents to have a go at Mac OS X

Now, if I can just figure out how to put a version of BSD on my PPC 5xx powerbook.....

    Errr...

I'm as tickled as the next guy about this news, but they didn't do an accurate study. If they wanted to properly sample, they would have selected a set number of specific boxes running each OS. They would then begin to collect data on those boxes over a 12 month period recording security breaches.

The results of THAT study would be a h*** of a lot more conclusive than this study. All this study shows is that the amount of market share a server OS has is relative to the amount of servers running that OS that get hacked into. Well, not exactly, but I think you get my point.

So if a report is pro-apple then it is a 'proper' report otherwise it is written by a biased journalist? I like how zealots have their self-worth and emotional well-being tied to a corporation.

In any case, this is just an affirmation of how a Free/Net/OpenBSD based implementation is the most secure one. Not news at all.

Well, duh! Its like the courts. When judges rule the way you want them to, they're following the law. If they rule the other way, they're 'activist' judges who are writing their own law and need to be kicked off the bench!

No, if a report is based on a perceived truth it is proper. Different people have different ideas on what the truth is. Just because you don't agree with them doesn't make it any less valid. It's got nothing to do with zealoty.

Trying to denegrate the pro-Apple opinions here is just as much zealotry as that you argue against.

    Truth

If a truth can be perceived differently, then it is not really the truth, is it? It is then a matter of opinion.

You can argue that something is as closer to the truth as possible - theory of relativity, theory of evolution, inalienable rights that all are created equal, which is fine. However, many of the pro-Apple sentiments here are just that, sentiments.

There is no doubt that Open/Free/NetBSDs are more secure. That is the truth. The fact that there is a large conspiracy out there of biased journalist and analysts who have a secret hatred of Apple and the 'truth' will come out - a sentiment.
