M-Audio\'s Audiophile 192

M-Audio today announced its new PCI card in its Delta line: the digital audio interface card. Building on the M-Audio Audiophile 2496, the Audiophile 192 is a PCI 2.2 digital audio interface featuring high-definition 24-bit/192kHz sampling rate via analog and digital I/O. The unit also incorporates a standard 1x1 MIDI interface. It also features analog connectivity via 1/4" TRS balanced connections. A second set of 1/4" TRS outs is dedicated to direct hardware input monitoring. The S/PDIF coaxial digital I/O features 2-channel PCM with SCMS copy protection control, as well as pass-through of surround-encoded AC-3 and DTS pass-through. It will ship later this month for $200.

Routing of all inputs and outputs is controlled through software. The digital I/O, for example, could be configured as a send/receive for external effects devices. Drivers include support for ASIO, WDM, GSIF 2 and Core Audio for compatibility with most applications. Mac operation requires G4 500MHz with OS X 10.2.8 or 10.3.4 and 256MB RAM. Mac OS X 10.3.4 is required for Dolby Digital and DTS pass-through with Apple DVD Player.
