M-Audio Fast Track USB

M-Audio today announced , a compact, entry-level audio interface is specifically designed to provide a simple way to record vocals, guitar and other instruments with popular music software such as Apple's GarageBand. The 2x2 bus-powered mobile audio interface offers up to 24-bit/48kHz audio fidelity and a dedicated XLR input for a dynamic microphone--with gain control and signal LEDs. The 1/4" input on the second channel can be toggled between instrument and line levels to accommodate a wide variety of signal sources. Audio outputs include dual RCAs and front-panel 1/8" stereo headphone jack that share a common level control. It is available now for $130 bundled with GT Player Express software.

"The price and functionality of the Fast Track USB reflect M-Audio's commitment to bringing the joy of making music to more and more computer users," says Adam Castillo, Marketing Director at M-Audio. "The unit and bundled software are extremely easy to set up and operate—perfect for entry-level users such as GarageBand owners who have just realized the importance of an external audio interface for recording things like guitar and vocals."

The Fast Track USB ships with GT Player Express software, providing users with a variety of effects and virtual stomp boxes that eliminate the need for an amplifier for basic recording and practice. GT Player Express also plays standard audio files like AAC, MP3 and WAV, allowing users to learn and jam along with their favorite music at variable speeds.

It also features direct hardware monitoring for synchronized overdubs. The compact unit is 5.4" (w) x 1.6" (h) x 3.3" (d) and weighs in at a mere .45 lbs. It requires Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later.
