    Learning to Live With >2G

"Microsoft has confirmed some problems with VPC 7.0 running on G5 Macs with more than 2GB of RAM--with errors ranging from Mac OS X kernel panics to various errors in Windows or VPC freezes."

Reflections of Windows' 2GB memory limitation? Looks like Microsoft is getting a chance to learn how to write software that can live without that limitation.

What would spook me is that VPC has to get its tentacles deep into the MacOS for it to do what it does, and I'm not so sure I would want MS there, given their track record. While it was Connectix it didn't bother me, but now it does.

    REALbasic Question...

We (my company) experimented with REAL early on (around version 4) but became discouraged when version after version continued to have bugs that we'd reported to their support people. It almost seems as if REAL's updates were more about generating cash for themselves rather than addressing the shortcomings of their product. I'd be curious as to others' perceptions and whether things have gotten better or worse.

    Thanks!

    VPC7 review not helpful

Alot of what people want to know from a review of a new version of a SW product (aka VPC 7 vs. VPC 6) is what is new and improved from the previous version.

The VPC 7 review gives no information on what is better, worse, or different from previous versions. It only gives the most general information that could almost be guessed by having used by any past VPC product.

As far as can be told, the only major difference between VPC 7 and VPC 6 is G5 compatibility (and apparently not that good, since it still doesn't work reliably with a 2+ GB RAM G5).

I give the review 2 out of 5 stars. :-P
