PowerBook \"white spots\"

Apple has posted details of its , which offers replacement of PowerBook LCDs that exhibit faint white spots on the screen. Apple says the issue affects both "Aluminum" and "Titanium" 15-inch PowerBooks, including those manufactured between July 2003 and November 2003. The worldwide program covers replacement of LCDs that exhibit these white spots--those PowerBooks that have a serial number between V7334xxxxxx to V7345xxxxxx or between QT331xxxxxx to QT339xxxxxx. The program covers affected PowerBooks for two (2) years after the first retail sale of the unit and also offers compensation for users who have already paid for eligible repairs.

    Brought mine in Friday

Brought my 15" 1 GHz Aluminum in to the Apple Store on Friday and got the repair going with no problems. They booted it, saw the white spots instantly, shut it down, said to expect it back about Wednesday!

    Not so fast

I bought a 15" rev B 1.5 Ghz Al. It developed white spots also. I send it back to Apple on Sep 15, and until now Sep 25, the repair status is still "in repair". I called Apple Care to check the status again, they told me the new LCD display is still on the way. So I guess you won't get your PB back on Wed.

    Had mine fixed ages ago

Got one of the first 15 inch Aluminum models, saw the problem developing slowly over the first month, delt with it for the second while the problem was still being discussed, then showed my local Apple reseller the problem. They ordered an LCD, and called me up two days later. I handed them my Powerbook, and in 20 minutes had it back with a new screen with no issue.

It's a shame the Apple Stores don't offer repair service like this. Being without a system is a pain at times, especially for a cosmetic issue that doesn't affect the machine working.

My 1.25hz 15" slowly developed spots. I called Apple, very quick turn-a-round.

    My serial starts with V7341xxx
