StuffIt Deluxe 9.0 boosts speed, adds backup

StuffIt Deluxe 9.0 ships


Allume Systems (formerly Aladdin Systems) today announced , the newest version of its file compression, access, and organization software for Mac OS X. This new version offers faster file compression and decompression, a more intuitive user interface, and enhanced backup features for storing files on multiple CDs/DVDs, and other storage media. The new version also provides enhanced connectivity options, allowing users to save archives directly to FTP servers or their .Mac iDisk. The full version is $80 with upgrades priced at $30. It requires Mac OS X 10.3 or later.

Other new features in version 9 include a redesigned user interface for DropStuff, improved dual-processor support, better Finder integration, new backup tools, enhanced restore functions, options to open files with StuffIt Expander or Deluxe, a new scripting tool, and enhanced cross platform compatibility options for Zip--it is now able to create .Zip archives that preserve Macintosh specific file attributes, such as the resource fork, while at the same time preserving 100% compatibility with Windows-based PCs.
