Costco sells iPod mini

Discount warehouse Costco.com will begin . The website indicates that the company will begin shipping the MP3 player beginning October 1st and will offer the Pink, Silver, and Blue versions of the iPod mini for $270, a slight premium over the $250 price from Apple and other retailers; however, Costco.com is bundling 15 free iTunes tracks as well the Apple iPod Armband station, which retails for $30. Users can choose Standard (15-20 business days) or Express (3-6) shipping options. [updated: the page no longer mentions the iPod mini dock]

    With Dock?

    > Apple iPod Mini With Click Wheel and Dock Station

It also appears that this bundle includes the iPod Mini Dock. Apple does not include the dock with the iPod mini.

    $186 mini

Yes, with the $15 Itunes credit, the dock and the arm band, the price for the mini is $186. That's pretty damn good.

    What player?

Why is MacNN refering to the iPod as an "MP3 player"? Why not an AAC player, or Apple Lossless player. MP3 is an inferior, outdated codec, and the iPod does so much more than play MP3's.

    Main reason to buy one

Most people will want to buy it to play tunes, and what people know is "MP3," not the other formats. Costco already carries other MP3 players so it fits in that category more easily.

    um.

Because it's become an interchangeable term, like 'Kleenex'.

    re: um

And if Apple keeps dominating like this for another 3 years, the generic term will iPod player.

    Dock?

No mention of the dock in the Costco ad:

"Included accessories: Apple earphones, adjustable armband, belt clip, AC adapter, certificate for 15 iTunes, FireWire cable, USB 2.0 cable"

    Dock or not?

I don't see any indication that the dock is included; visited costco.com at 10:01 (California time), 17SEP04.

Have they changed the bundle or did MacNN get it wrong?

    they took the dock away!!

I looked at the website at 7 this morning, and there was definitely a picture of the dock right there on the costco site, and it listed it in the chatter about what it comes with. obviously, they goofed and took it down. i wonder if they will honor it for those who placed orders this morning...
