Am I the only one who thinks "digital music" is a stupid term for this topic? Consumers have been purchasing digitally encoded music for 20 years!

    Big Players...REAL?

Real Networks a big digital music player? NOT!!! Last time I checked they were as relevant in the digital music arena as the Kerry campaign is in this year's election...good enough for me to p*** ON!

perhaps you should check again, real networks has been the clear number 2 (no pun intended) since their ¢49 deal over the past month. doubling their market share. your insight in the music download industry is about as accurate as your knowledge of politics. maybe you should check that again too.

Show me the numbers. That is, outside of a the Real press release that also claims all their 10% gain came directly from iTunes and no where else.

sooooo.... your saying that there is no one as number 2. That iTunes has 100% of the leagal download market.

Somebody has to be number one. And according to everybody, includeing Apple, Real IS number 2.

I notice you say that Real in not number two. So who do you think in number 2? Microsoft?

    Yah!

Looks like Apple's iTMS drove another music store out of business. Yahoo wont be able to do a damn thing with it either.

    RISKY

This seems like a risky move. $160 million to a company that is not exactly rolling in money, to get into a market that already has clear leaders and the rest is already overly saturated.

Take the $160million and do something new and innovative. I really think they are just blowing it.
