Blackmagic at IBC

Blackmagic Design today made several announcements at IBC in Amsterdam, including its dual rate SD/HD-SDI capture card (DeckLink HD Plus), a new broadcast quality routing switcher (Workgroup Videohub), a new lower on its full HDTV 4:4:4 monitoring system (HDLink), a DeckLink HD Pro Software Update, a new all-in-one converter and breakout (DeckLink Multibridge), lower prices on DeckLink HD and DeckLink HD Pro, and a new single link 4:2:2 version of DeckLink HD Pro.

Blackmagic Design has introduced a single link 4:2:2 only version of capture card to $2,000.

The company also said it will preview a new software update for DeckLink HD Pro cards that features a new broadcast quality HD down conversion allowing simultaneous HD and down converted standard definition output, DVCPRO HD hardware acceleration, as well as high quality 14-bit 5x over-sampled composite NTSC/PAL analog output. It is expected to ship in November as a free update for all DeckLink HD Pro users.

Blackmagic Design also announced a new lower price of $700 for HDLink, its solution for dual-rate HD and standard definition monitoring on DVI-D based computer monitors. HDLink connects post production quality SDI video directly to any supported DVI-D based LCD computer monitor for true HDTV resolution video monitoring.

Blackmagic's Workgroup Videohub is a professional routing switcher that features low-cost, dual-rate HD and SD compatibility. It eliminates manual cable patching by connecting everyone together into a fully featured professional routing switcher. It offers 12 fully independent dual rate SDI inputs and 24 independent SDI outputs that auto-switch between HD-SDI and Standard Definition SDI. It is available for $5,000.

The new all in one converter and breakout box called DeckLink Multibridge is "the first time someone has developed a converter with 14 bit digital to analog conversion, that also has dual link HD 4:4:4 quality as well as standard definition, and full digital and analog audio conversion," according to the company. The single-device solution also features processing and memory for down conversion and other processing functions.

DeckLink Multibridge handles all YUV video conversion in/out as well as composite NTSC/PAL including 4 channels of analog XLR professional audio in & out and 8 channels of AES/EBU audio in/out. It can connect analog decks such as Betacam SP to SDI, or it can be added to any editing and design workstation.

"Finally there is a solution to the mess of adding little converters for video and audio, because DeckLink Multibridge combines all audio and video conversion plus HD down conversion into the single product." Said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design "Combined with the quality of Dual Link 4:4:4, and dual rate standard definition and high definition support, DeckLink Multibridgetm is a perfect solution to our customers converter and break out box needs, and will easily become one of those industry changing products!"

Other features include 14-bit digital to analog conversion, conversion between SDI and analog audio and video (as well as analog to SDI, simultaneously), a large 64 MB memory buffer, both analog and digital audio conversion, powerful realtime video processing (e.g., HD down conversion), digital-level adjustments controlled via USB, reversible rack mounting, and more.

DeckLink Multibridge ($2,000) is dual rate and operates in both Standard Definition and High Definition, while DeckLink Multibridge SD ($1,500) is a lower cost model that operates in Standard Definition only.

Finally, the company announced DeckLink HD Plus, a new generation card that adds genlock and HD Tri-Sync input as well as AES/SPDIF digital audio input and output. The company says that DeckLink HD Plus is the first uncompressed 10-bit video PCI card priced under $1,000 that can do both standard definition SDI video, as well as full HDTV video formats and includes genlock for integration with large broadcast facilities. DeckLink HD Plus can instantly be switched between SDTV SMPTE-259M SDI video and HDTV SMPTE-292M/296M SDI video for 1080i/1080p/720p video editing and design. DeckLink HD Plus features a single HD/SD-SDI video & audio input and output, AES/SPDIF digital audio input output, genlocked AES wordclock output as well as a Sony compatible RS422 serial deck control port.
