Apple's transition period for its updated ends September 30, 2004. The new program only allows the Mac logo to be used in products that operate natively in Mac OS X--not Classic, Mac OS 9, or any previous version of the Mac OS. The program had previously allowed developers to use the Mac logo with products that operated in the Classic environment of Mac OS X. Apple's Developer website also notes that the company has phased out use of the 'Built for Mac OS X' moniker.

"During the transition to Mac OS X, the Built for Mac OS X trademark helped users differentiate products that operated natively in Mac OS X from those that operated only in the Classic environment of Mac OS X. Now that the Mac OS X transition is complete, there is no longer a need for the Built for Mac OS X trademark."



Apple says that product packaging or marketing collateral printed prior to September 30, 2004 may remain in and ship into the channel until fully depleted, but that materials printed after September 30, 2004 must use the new artwork and be in compliance with the new Mac logo trademark license agreement, requiring submission and approval of the updated Mac Logo Trademark Agreement.
