has started taking pre-orders for the Apple iPod from HP, which is slated to ship September 5. Both 20GB (part no. PE435A#ABA) and 40GB (part no. PE436A#ABA) are available for $300 and $400, respectively. The devices appear to mirror the specifications of Apple's iPod, minus HP's support for the devices. The iPods include free shipping and can also be ordered by calling 888-570-6420.

I don't know why they call it HP's version when it's exactly the same as Apple's. The consumer is not going to think it's an HP product when it is titled 'Apple iPod from HP'
And that is GREAT for Apple! Their logo is all over the box and on the back of the unit. Can't beat that.
Seem that HP has gone from one of the industries leading tech companies, to a leading distributer.
At least this is great for Apple!

1 year of full telephone support. Not bad considering Apple is tightening it's restrictions on iPod phone support. Down from 90 days to limit of 1 incident in 90 days.
Looked at the HP specs apart for iTunes for Mac (which version of iTunes?) there is no specs listed for Mac OS X.
I gather this will work just like the current iPod from Apple?
