Recent job postings by Apple's iPod division searching for hardware engineers both with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi experience has prompted speculation that a future version of the handheld MP3 player may be , according to a report by The Register: "The job applications [were] posted on behalf of Apple's iPod division and call for candidates with 'a consumer electronics background dealing with high volume, low power, high quality products'." The report speculates that the new wireless functions may be used for primarily for connectivity to Apple's AirPort Express device rather than for replacing the FireWire/USB connection currently used to sync songs.

    That is one possibility…

…however, with the creation of separate Mac and iPod divisions, where would completely new devices for the consumer that are neither Mac nor iPod be created? Would Apple put the creation of a PDA, or a cell phone, or various living room components (PVR, music storage device, whole house entertainment, etc.) in the Macintosh or the iPod divisions? Does anyone know of other potential projects from Apple? Or is the iPod division a one horse stampede?
