New Optio digital cameras
today debuted the new Optio X digital camera featuring an innovative swivel design and the new Optio S5i, an update to its ultra-compact Optio S series. The new Optio X opens with "just a twist of the hand and positions the lens on one side for shooting freedom and the LCD monitor on the other side for viewing ease." The unique design allows both above-the-head and hip-level shots, according to the company. It offers 5.0 megapixel resolution (effective), a 3X optical zoom, a 2-inch TFT color LCD monitor, and the slimmest profile body (0.7 in) in the entire Optio series. Pentax's Sliding Lens system allows the lens to be completely retracted inside the body as soon as the power is turned off.
The Optio X also features a new "My Menu" function, which allows users to group together frequently used functions for easy future access. The Optio X includes the latest version of ACDSee 5.1 software to retrieve, view, manage, print, enhance and share your digital photos. The Optio X will ship along with the software to major camera retailers in September 2004.
Pentax also debuted its Optio S5i, featuring 5.0 effective megapixels and a 3X optical zoom lens. The Optio S5i features a stylish design in an ultra-compact, lightweight form factor as well as a new Sport mode that sets the camera for shutter speed-priority to enable spontaneous shooting; the Pan focusing mode offers optimal focusing from close range to infinity. The Optio S5i battery charger stand is capable of simultaneously charging one rechargeable Lithium-ion battery housed inside the camera as well as a spare battery. The Optio S5i is equipped with 10MB of internal memory and supports SD memory cards.
Pentax will unveil the Optio S5i and Optio X on September 20 at the PEPCOM Holiday Spectacular in New York City. Both are expected to ship to major camera retailers in September 2004.
