Public apology to Jobs

In his , BusinessWeek's technology editor Alex Salkever says that the iPod mini "is not a flop. In fact, it's a hit. I can't deny it. So, here's my apology, Steve. The mini is no Cube. I was wrong, and you were right," but continues to argues that the price of the device remains too high: "Do I still think the price needs to come down? Absolutely. The Sony Walkman didn't truly take off until it dropped below $200, and video-game consoles often sell poorly or slowly until they fall below that threshold.

    mini @ $200

The article says that the mini will really take off when the price drops below $200.
If Apple can't crank out enough minis to meet current demand at $249, then why would Apple drop the price to $200?

How do you like your crow

This will not be the last apology to come from these nitwits, they have been consistent Apple naysayers. The next few years (pre-longshot) will see a lot of OS shopping in the tech markets, who's got the best bang for the buck? Let's ask Alex…

    G3 Cube

Don't mean to nitpick (well, actually I do mean to nitpick), but G3 Cube? Hopefully that'll get corrected or it must have been so shortlived that I never heard of it :-)

    Supply vs demand

You don't drop the price until sales start to level off or supply starts to increase. Its basic economics 101. And this guy works for business week?

    Writing credentials

I wonder if anyone ever checked Alex Salkever's writing credentials. Once again this self-proclaimed Apple "expert" exposes his lack of knowledge for all to see. It amazes me that anyone would take what he writes seriously after destroying his credibility with articles like this day after day. If this bozo ran a business it would fail in a few short months. Perhaps these rags just can't afford to hire writers who actually went to their Business 101 classes. Clearly, this "expert" doesn't understand market economics.

Neither has he checked his writing for accuracy. G3 Cube? Wonder what company made that? It wasn't Apple.

    cube wasn't a flop

i'm writing this one one right now and it rocks. it takes up only 16 square inches on my desk and it has the equivalanet speed of an up to date imac (with upgrades).

apple needs to bring back the cube.. if anything the cube was a "flop" simply because it was too expensive. For those of us who have htem, they are fantastic machines.

    Price of Microdrives

Most of the expense of the mini is the cost of the Microdrive. Some people are buying minis only to rip the Microdrives out of them because it's cheaper than buying a Microdrive outright (at least that was was the case when the mini first came out), so I'd say Apple is pricing them correctly.

How many weeks does a product need to be backordered before it's "truly taking off"?

    No G3 cube

This writer doesn't know what he's talking about. A G3 Cube? Never heard of such a product.
