RealNetworks' launches anti-Apple petition

RealNetworks' Freedom of Choice website, launched this morning as part of its effort to increase music sales and promote its new RealPlayer Harmony technology, took direct aim at Apple with its "Hey Apple, Don't Break My iPod!" online petition that rallied support the company's Harmony technology, which enables customers to playback non-iTunes files on their iPod (and other music players), however, RealNetworks' has modified the original text and replaced it with a revised petition, removing the ability post comments after dozens of pro-Apple supporters offered anti-RealNetworks opinions on the petition.

Real Needs To Practice...

...What It Preaches!

If Real was really all about "Freedom Of Choice" then
they would offer their content beyond the "Windows
Only" crowd.

I want to see Real practice what they preach. Give us
"Freedom Of Choice" and offer your goods to not only
just Windows, but Mac, Linux, Amiga and etc...

It's time to give consumers "Freedom Of Choice" and
finally break the "Windows Only" experience!

Real's "Freedom Of Choice" falls short in the true
meaning of the phrase. Consumer freedom spans beyond
just "Windows Only" and I think it's time that these
companies start realizing that.

Yeah, they are full of crap. Don't kid yourself, they could careless about "Freedom of Choice", they just want to cash in on the iPod success and this is what it's about; a bigger pie of the pie for them. It's BS

Real must be desparate to resort to this kind of crap. First reverse engineer FairPlay, now this.

I agree with those above, if Real was truly serious about "fair play", they'd release full-blown versions of their warez for Mac OS X and Linux

Their player is losing market and mind share to QuickTime and WMA.

Is it just a matter of time before Real just isn't?

As of 4:14 pm EST there are only 411 signatures.

Will this help counter Apple's lawsuit?

Yean, right! Get Real!

... start our own petition supporting Apple to keep Real away from the iPod?

I bet we would get more signatures than Real.

I agree with everyone. This has got to be the most embarassing thing I've seen a company do. It's like asking the creator of the DVD to make VHS tapes play in your machines or else you'll get sued! I'm sorry that your product sucks, but that's not anyone elses fault. I mean, you can argue their silly reasoning for anything - i.e., "If you don't make (insert any product/software here) compatible with what we have, we'll take you to court!" Who's next for them? Sony? Their music device only plays ATRAC...

Give it up Real. You guys are losing and have been for a while. Don't be a poor sport about it.

I never liked the real player, now I don't like them at all. Talk about free enterprise and competition... if they can't do, toss in the towel, and stop the whining, it's embarassing!

On their new petition, I'm just entering the phrase "Bite Me" 30 times where it asks for my name, and then giving admin@freedomofmusicchoice.org as my address.
