    Good job Bill

Say what you will about Bill Gates, but the man gives a lot of money to charity. So what if its to get a tax break. Its 3.5 Billion Dollars!

    I like this one

"Several industry analysts have predicted introduction of Longhorn in 2006 or possibly 2007, which is when the antitrust settlement is scheduled to expire."

In other words, Longhorn is being delayed:

    (A) Because microsoft needs more time to copy OS X.
    (B) Because there's a possiblity that the antitrust settlement provisions will expire by that time, thus microsoft can put anything they want into Longhorn without fear of government backlash.

    Nice, eh?

    Common sense in Congress?

" Good...there is some common sense in congress after all."

You are joking, right? Or are you just an idiot?

Stock options are not free. The money has to come from somewhere. The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) professionals correctly determined that options need to be expensed and politicians blocks that move. How is that common sense?

You may be sarcastic but in fairness - Longhorn is being delayed because of its own many technical problems., not because of copying OS X. In reality all OS borrow good features from one another - you don't see people saying OS X copied journaling, fast user switching, etc from other OS. Heck, let's not get started on the Sherlock and Widget thing either.

As for antitrust, more BS. There's nothing to prevent the government from pursuing another antitrust investigation into MS practices at anytime if it has the evidence to do so. Longorn schedule has nothing to do with it.

So again, Longhorn is being delayed because of its many technical, security, bloat, etc issues that. Not everything is about Apple.

Not as good as you think

I thank Bill Gates for his generosity BUT he has still given away less of his total worth than nearly every other philanthopist in the last 100 years. I don't know what percentage this $3 billiion brings it up to but until now he had given less than 1% compared to Carnagie who gave nearly 50% of his money away to people in nearly every town in the US and most important, he gave them money, not products from his company as gifts. his tax break will be big and he and the other majority stock owners of M$ stock, many of which work for the company are getting the lion's share.

    Charities are tax shelter

Every celeberity and their dog now has their own "special" charity they have started and represent. It's a tax dodge and away for them to get good pr and save tax dollars.

    Charities

Cannot even begin to compare Gates to Carnegie. First, most of Gates' money is unrealized. Second, the guy still has, what, 30-50 years to live and give money away?

As for the celebrities and dogs comment, what is your point? Are you suggesting Gates' charity is a pure tax dodge and PR ploy and it is not doing good? I donate to charity as well (biggest one to date is a $5000 donation in 2001) - so I am a tax dodger too?

Sure, there are celebs out there who donate to charity not purely out of the kindness of their hearts but at least they are doing something. I hope you are doing more for charity than just mouthing off.
