Jobs sure did kill Apple...
oh wait...
he's annoying as h***. why doesn't he just come out with his damned interface from heaven already? he's got a flash demo of it but it's pretty clunky and really doesn't adapt well to working with things other than visual documents. with quartz extreme and opengl he could probably do something a lot nicer than he's done so far. why not get a bunch of grad student interns together to build it, or start opening up his discussions on the interface so it can be done opensource. but no, instead he insists on talking about it only in his book: that's what sells his book he says.
I hope they actually talked about creating the mac at some point, i'd hate to think that they got these legendary developers together just to bash jobs.
The computer Raskin envisioned is NOT the Macintosh that shipped in 1984. Raskin's "Macintosh" was a text-based all-in-one computer very much like the (way) old "word processor" computers that had all the software built in and that was all you could do with it.
Jobs took over and forced the team to build something better, better than the Lisa (which was a market failure BIG TIME).
Raskin is just mad that he is not fully credited for "creating the Macintosh", even though he had virtually nothing to do with the project outside of naming what shipped as "Macintosh" (with a codename that just happened to stick).
Go back to making useless overly complicated CLI-like text editors that no one needs/wants Mr. Computer Scientist. Geeze!
Raskin definitely needs to shut up; I'm surprised any of the true Mac designers sat on the same stage while he was slandering Jobs. Raskin had absolutely nothing to do with the Mac, and the computer he ended up producing was crappy. If you want to know the true story of the Mac's creation, go to Hertzfeld's folklore.org. The true creators of the Mac were Hertzfeld, Atkinson, Smith, Capps, etc., not Raskin. MacNN really shouldn't be linking to such worthless material.
