FT: Apple and online music

Apple is in danger of if it stumbles in its efforts to stay ahead of competitors, an article in today's Financial Times explains. Such a blunder could be especially painful for Apple, which has seen its shares rise 124 percent since launching the iTunes Music Store, despite continuing to lose market share in the PC space. "Against this background, digital entertainment appears to represent Apple's best long-term growth prospects... Yet investors are still waiting for Steve Jobs to make his next big move."

    Weird

What a weird article. It is just a summary of negativisms and strange non-truths. For instance, he attacks Apple for supposedly keeping its "Macintosh software" closed. What about it is any more closed than Windows??? He is just another half-witted journalist parroting what he has read and half-understood over the years.

    Jobs' next big move

    ...is the iMac. Duh.

Look, if the guy had any idea of reality, he'd be something more than a journalist.

    same old tripe

It's nothing that hasn't been said about Apple in previous yeras. Same ol c*** about "if Apple doesn't ..." "will lag..." look even if ten other music services show up, I(Mac) and many of my PC friends only got to iTms to buy.

Regardless of Apples market share, PC's will always out sell Macs but do these jerks realize that Macs are selling too ?
They make it sound like only wintels are selling and no one is buying Macs. That's what irritates me.

"Apple is moving out of the PC business"

I guess there's no point in releasing OS X 1.4 Tiger then?

    Idiots.

    favor

could we do everyone a favor as well and explain that itunes is more than just a music store. mac users could tell you what itunes was years ago. fresh minds only see the music store side and don't realize they can download a very nice player/ripper as well.

    They should be carefull

I think cell phones might end up being there biggest ipod competitor.

3mb cameras are already appearing in cell phones. I want it all in one place. I dont want to carry more than 2 devices around with me.

Don't underestimate microsofts efforts either. Apple should push as hard as it can at this point.

    yeah right.

microsoft is way behind the competion in the OS world yet it still has maintained a lead for nearly 20 years now.

I guess the analogy should be made more closely to the game consoles. Nintendo had the lead for several years. The the playstation came out with better tecnology and CD-ROM support and blew NES away. The x-box is nicer but not really anything new so it is just a me too. So I guess as long as apple innovates and nobody trumps them and only immitates them, the iPod will have a long life span.

    This is journalism?

Anybody can write "Apple is the leader now. It's possible one day they won't be. What if they stop making great products, and someone else starts making things as good as Apple?" That's true, but hardly worth publishing.

So then simply slant it so it seems like Apple is dying, Sony 8TRAC will kill the iPod, and Apple will never innovate again. Reasons to back this up? Don't need any. Now you've got yourself an article! :)
