M-Audio Classroom Studio

this week debuted its new new Classroom Studio, a package which it says brings educators the same tools used by the pros to aid and document students' lessons, performances and progress. The Classroom Studio bundle includes M-Audio's MobilePre USB audio interface/preamp, two Nova large condenser microphones, Ableton Live Delta, Reason Adapted, and cables. "Educators can easily record accompaniment for students to play along with and optionally record their progress as well." It is available for Mac OS 9/X for $350.

Live Delta--a streamlined version of Ableton's Live recording software that provides for easy creation of loop-based or linear recording and enables educators to change pitch and tempo independently according to students' needs. Reason Adapted facilitates the addition of synthesizers, drums and other instrumentation to arrangements.

The included MobilePre USB doubles as a high-quality stereo microphone preamp and professional audio interface for the computer. Features include 16-bit/48kHz operation, two mic inputs (XLR) with phantom power, stereo microphone input (1/8" TRS), two high-impedance line inputs (1/4") for guitar, bass, etc., two line outputs (1/4" @ -10dBV) and stereo headphone output with level control. The USB bus-powered interface also features zero-latency hardware direct monitoring.

The two included Nova large-capsule condenser microphones offer professional features and quality to stereo recording. Features include 1.1" evaporated gold diaphragm, solid brass body and capsule, and 20Hz-18kHz frequency response.

"The Classroom Bundle represents our commitment to educators and the important role that music curriculum represents in the school systems," says Adam Castillo, M-Audio's Marketing Director. "Each of the components in the Classroom Studio is a professional-grade product in itself. The combination brings educators the same quality used in professional studios around the world--and in an easy-to-use package that's designed to work together."

Classroom Studio runs on a Mac (G3/300MHz or G4/350MHz) with native USB, and either Mac OS 9.2.2 or Mac OS X 10.2.6, although it says that accelerator cards not supported. It is available for $350.
