Congress is out to effectively ban MP3 players. Spearheaded by none other then the good hearted folks of the RIAA.
Anybody with any sense will tell you that the Inducing Infringement of Copyrights Act is a complete load of Grade-A c***. Once again, we blame somebody other then the pirater for his pirating- the ISP, the Collage institution, the P2P network, the MP3 player maker. None of which does anything but provide tools. It's PEOPLE, and NOT the technology, which causes the problem. Too bad the stiffs in Congress don't see that. They would much rather limit our freedoms and please the money makers then put any serious thought to the problem.
I'm not saying piracy isn't an issue. (Double negative, yech.) What I am saying is that it's not the RIAA or the MPAA or even Congress' job to police the internet. Leave that task to the FBI or some other "Net Force"-like organization.
If you value your rights in the digital age even the slightest, I would suggest writing your congressman/woman. The fat cats will be pushing more and more of these bills aimed at piracy but destroying your digital rights in the years ahead... you can bet the farm on it.
Anyone know whether this proposed legislation will affect these outside USA?
Can they enforce the ban when it is being used legally?
I know I'll get flamed for this, but it's amazing they can even think of banning an item such as a digital music player, and leave handguns out there. What causes a greater threat and more damage to the people of USA?
If anyone reading this is *at all* concerned about their digital rights, visit the Electronic Frontier Foundation and see an example lawsuit that could be brought against Apple and other tech innovators. There is also a link to fax your congressfolk a letter about your opinion in regards to this bill...

Better yet why not sue SONY for our entire national debt because their dual layer DVD burner can make copies of commercial DVD's... of course after CSS is decrypted.
