Link Aggregation for Macs
Small Tree Communications today released version 1.4 of its networking software. Version 1.4 offers higher stability and improved performance for a wider range of network switches over the initial 802.3ad product introduction. Link Aggregation enables true enterprise class network solutions by bonding or trunking multiple Ethernet ports on a single computer into one virtual interface for higher bandwidth and higher availability.
Small Tree says it is "the first and only" company providing this technology
for Macs.
"The v1.4 release of our 802.3ad product will allow more Apple
customers to realize the benefits of Link Aggregation without having to
replace their network switch infrastructure" said company President
Corky Seeber. "Apple customers looking to get the maximum benefit from
the recently announced Xsan product will recognize that our Link
Aggregation product provides an enterprise class network solution for
their SAN implementations. This software is ideal for web, file,
digital video and other media server environments by increasing the
available bandwidth and reliability of the installed network links from
the server. This allows for larger client loads per server with a
longer mean time between failures".
Small Tree v1.4 Link Aggregation provides support for static or manual
802.3ad Link Aggregation, which is often implemented on older model ethernet
switches. In addition the v1.4 Link Aggregation product incorporates an
improved port allocation algorithm, providing higher performance from
the aggregated links due to better load balancing of the network. The
v1.4 Link Aggregation also provides improved stability by resolving a
wider range of end case configuration and launch conditions, making the
product easier for the system administrator to cleanly install.
