Hitachi to boost iPod mini drive output

More iPod mini drives


Hitachi's hard disk drive unit said on Sunday that it will spend about $200 million to of its Thailand factory, including the 1-inch, 4GB disk drives that are found in the iPod Mini, according to Reuters: "Production of Hitachi Global Storage Technologies' Microdrive will rise to about 2 million units per quarter by the end of the year, from 200,000 in the first three months of this year, said John Osterhout, who manages Hitachi GST's Microdrive program."

    What manufacturing geniuses they have there at Hitachi. Can't meet demand for four months, and then they finally decide to increase production. Hmm, sounds like they get advice from Apple on this subject.

    wtf.. this means that apple can only sell 8 million minis this year. not exactly a walkman worldwide revolution. they need to get it so they are selling a mini for every home computer user in the world (ie about 150 million).
