    fast response

This seems to be the fastest I've ever seen the authorities clamp down on a major virus. Although, it's very disappointing that people out there are still so bad at protecting their systems from the virus even with the advanced warning.

    denounced

Only because the Sasser programer was denounced. He had probably been bragging once too often. Otherwise the CIA, FBI etc. would never have found him.

    Found?

The CIA, FBI did not find him, german police did. CIA and FBI aren't the sharpest tools in the toolbox, they'd still be looking.

    Not exactly

Microsoft had a $250,000 bounty out for anybody that had information that would lead to the arrest of the creator.

    Bounty indeed

This 18 year old student was turned in by some people who knew him and who were interested in the reward offered by Microsoft. Check the Reuters website.

As far as duplicating copy-protected CDs and DVDs, the law in some European countries allow it for a private use. So, this type of software is definitely legal, well, in some places around the world, not everywhere.

Why pay so much for easy duplication of DVDs when 0sex makes a disk img for free?

    Grab yer ankles, geek-boy

I foresee "the system" making an example out of this kid the likes of which the world has never seen.

Not that that's a bad thing...

    re:Bounty indeed

about copying, it SHOULD be legal in the US as well; at least that's my understanding of the fair use laws that have been long established in this country, since long before the Digital Millenium Copyright Act was enacted; i'm no constitutional lawyer, but i suspect there may ultimately be some constitutionality issues with the DMCA, the law these programs are accused of violating. there's a petition on the internet (albeit a somewhat legalese and at the same time flamboyantly worded one) calling for the repeal of the DMCA. it explains quite well why the DMCA violates the constitution. i encourage you to go read and "sign" it.
