iTMS hits milestone

Apple today that it has sold 3.3 million songs from its third-generation iTunes Music Store since its launch one week ago and also said iTunes users have already published more than 20,000 iMixes--which have been rated over 50,000 times. In addition to the sold songs, iTunes users have also downloaded more than 500,000 free songs during Apple's week-long “Free Song of the Day” anniversary promotion. "Our third generation iTunes Music Store just blows away any other online music service," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "With over 700,000 songs and innovative features like iMix, it's the easiest to use and most fun to use online music store in the world."

    I wonder

Since the store launched on Wednesday and the Pepsi promotion ended Friday, I wonder if the extra song "purchases" were simply people using their free Pepsi songs at the last minute.

    ot: united miles

one nice thing about sony's connect is being able to use united airline frequent flier miles to pay for songs. too bad i don't fly united and don't like minidisc/atrac/memory stick, etc. it would be nice to see an affiliation between apple and continental or american express.

back on topic: i wonder how long before they hit the 100mil mark now. should come in a few months at this rate.

    Free songs

Does this include free songs? The free songs look like purchased songs to the user - invoice, etc, so I wonder if this is included in the total "sold" count.

    Re: in the world

Yeap.. US store represents the whole World.

Well.. I used to use MiniDisc.. it was great for recording lecture. My old portable MD player/recorder can do the 1st generation ATRAC.. not LP4 or current one.. but I found the sound quality is decent. The battery life was pretty good too. Not to mention, my digital camera uses memory stick.

Anyway, I do own an iPod here and buy music from the iTMS.

    Think...

...if they had Canada signed up, we'd contribute at least another 1000 or so to that total!

Although when they go global, I'd expect they'd have to do a break-out by country.
