DrunkenBlog has published a commentary on the state of independent development of Mac software. "As far as big, high-quality apps... , and those that are being released are from the usual suspects. Nothing much new. Isn't Cocoa a developer nirvana, and doesn't the 'power of Cocoa' allow one guy to do the work of 5?" The article puts some blame on Apple: "Apple historically hasn't had a good relationship with developers, and while I'd have to do more checking than its worth, I wouldn't be surprised if Apple has had the most cantankerous developer relation of any OS vender evar."

    Sad but true ...

    I think this report is perceptive and generally on track.

    I am starting a new job next month and my employer is an advertising agency. Guess what, only the graphics people get to use Macs, and the rest of us are required to use PCs. What a drag. Trying to fight it is futile. But I guarantee you that when my new PC acts up due to a virus or instability -- and it will -- I will show no pity. I will break out my G4 17" PB and get some real work done while the company spends their time and dollars trying to repair my PC.

    Read the WHOLE THING

    This is an excellent analysis of a scary situation, not to be summed up in those two paragraphs. Read the whole thing, and THEN criticize the guy if you still can.
