PalmOne to ship two new Zire handhelds next week

updated 03:00 pm EDT, Fri April 23, 2004

PalmOne to debut 2 Zires

PalmOne next week plans to announce two as it continues to look to the consumer market, according to a CNET News.com report. Both will use PalmSource's Garnet operating system. The Zire 72 ($300), which will use Intel's 312MHz handheld processor, will come with a built-in digital camera, a digital audio player, a high-resolution display, a SD expansion slot and Bluetooth on the high-end model (but will not use the sliding case used with the Zire 71). The Zire 31 ($150) will use an 200MHz Intel handheld chip and will come with a SD expansion slot, a digital audio player, and a display with a 160-by-160-pixel resolution.

    Let's hope...

When PalmSource announced that Macs would need third party programs to support Palm OS 6, PalmOne publically announced that they would continue to support the Macintosh platform. Well, here's their first two OS 6 devices, and let's see if they put their money where their mouth is...

    Not OS 6

Garnet OS is still version of OS 5 (OS 6 is still a little ways off).

I just bought a tungsten, and I really like it. It is a bit frustrating to have to buy missingsync software, but I just budgeted it in to the cost of the palm.

If palm and sony were smart, they would just license markspace/missing sync and ship it with their handhelds.

    Anybody

know of a hand held that can connect directly to a projector, for portable presentations? (ie VGA, DVI connectors) Dell claims they can, but they don't provide cable, or connector. How do they do it?

you are right about Garnet being OS 5, but you are wrong if you bought MissingSync to go with a Tungsten... they don't need it! Only Sony, Garmin, and a couple other devices.

if you bought it for a Tungsten, return it. The PalmOne Palm Desktop will work fine with Mac OS right now.
