Analysts look for improvement in G5 sales

updated 09:05 pm EDT, Wed April 7, 2004

G5 sales improvement?

Analysts are looking for signs that have improved, when the company posts its second-quarter results on April 14: CBSMarketWatch reports that "the higher-margin PowerMacs are seen as contributing more to Apple's earnings than the iPods, and an upgrade in Apple's creative markets is considered crucial to the company's future performance. analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call are looking for the iconic computer company to earn 10 cents a share on $1.8 billion in revenue."

    they may be disappointed

Traditionally, sales of computers don't improve when they stay at the same specs and same prices for over 6 months.

Not only that, but the case is way too big and bulky.

If Apple doesn't figure out that they need to reduce the case size, sales of this line will remain sluggish.

    Re: Traditionally

Actually, its been like 10 months, if you count when Apple first announced the damn things. It has become really depressing once again. Let's see, new processor, one year for an update; hmmm, where have I heard that one before? Ugh. I think I'm going to throw up. :(

Do people really care about the relative bulk of a desktop's case? There are PC enclosures out there that are much larger than the G5's and and they seem to be doing just fine. I don't think size has much of a bearing on sales.

What I think might have a bearing on sales was Steve's 3GHz comment. I, for one, would have held off buying a G5 until it came out. I'm not in the market, mind you, but that would have been a real deterrent.

And let's not forget cost, kids. $1,800 without a display isn't exactly what most people consider affordable.

    Looking for

I really don't care what analysts are looking for. Apple users, however, are looking for improvements to the G5 itself. Until then, sales aren't going to improve...
