Sony\'s new displays
Sony today announced two new that feature dual-inputs so that users can connect them to two systems. The 17-inch SDM-S74 and 19-inch SDM-S94 have one digital and one analog input, feature Sony's adjustable ErgoStand, and will be available in black and silver bezels. The S74 and S94 will ship in April for $520 and $750, respectively. Sony yesterday announced two new dual-layer DVD-R drives, which can store up to 8.5GB of data. While not specifically Mac-compatible at the moment, they mark the company's first dual-layer offerings.
The internal DRU-700A and external DRX-700UL are dual-layer DVD+R/-RW recorders will be able to burn to dual-layer DVD+R discs at 2.4x, single-layer DVD+/-R discs at 8x, DVD+/-RW at 4x, CD-R at 40x, and CD-RW at 24x. The external model will ship with both USB 2.0 and FireWire Interfaces.
The two recorders will go on sale in the second quarter for $230 (internal) and $330 (external). They will only come bundled with software for Windows 2000/XP, but one can presume that both Apple and Roxio will update their disc burning software to be compatible with the drives.

Dual Layer Goodness
Philips announced drives earlier, too. With all the major players jumping on board dual-layer hardware, it's guaranteed to get Mac OS X support. Although, I probably won't buy a drive until it's from Pioneer; their stuff is the best. I'm a "-R" fan myself, but for double the capacity of a single sided disc, I'll use any arithmetic-operator-prefixed format they come up with :-P
