Apple's iTunes top among all music services

iTunes tops in survey

Apple's iTunes Music Store stands out among Fortune's : "iTunes Music Store. If you're new to online music, this is the place to start. It's based on the Windows version of Apple's iTunes software, which tightly integrates a media-player program (iTunes), a download service (the music store), and a portable player (the iPod), resulting in unparalleled ease of use. The software is free and there are no subscription fees. The catalog of more than 500,000 songs is among the largest of all legal services. Apple's search functions are best-in-class, making it easy to find the music you seek, assuming it's available."

    late, but good

this article is a little late in coming out (as in there are so many articles like this already), but that's the good thing: it keeps the ball rolling. It'll help keep iTunes fresh in the mind of the public.

    "Windows version"?

    "...based on the Windows version..."

Great. Now Joe 12 Pack has another reason to think that Windows is actually behind yet another Apple innovation.

How about "...which is based on Apple's iTunes software (available for both Macintosh and Windows)..."

    Re: Windows version

Umm, I'm not sure what you're getting at. Why would "Windows version" imply Microsoft having anything to do with it? I'm trying to read that line as "Joe sixpack" and all it would make me think of would be the "Windows version of iTunes".... i.e. the version of the iTunes software developed for Microsoft Windows. It wouldn't make me think of MS's participation any more than reading the line "OS X version of MS Office" would make me think Apple had anything to do with it.

    difference

the difference is that they said its BASED on the windows version. you must be an idio not to see what sixpack is talking about. if it says its BASE Don eosmething, then its not the original. its liek saying "microsoft office whch wa sbased on apple works," cmon now

    let's just leave it at:

"MS Windows, based on the Apple Macintosh (and therfore pirated PLUS somehow becoming a 2-bit viral-attracting scourge-of-the-earth's-hacker's OS)"

    re: difference

I'm sorry, I guess I'm an idiot because I don't see it. It says "based on the Windows version of iTunes". And that's true..... the iTunes Music Store is based on the Windows version of iTunes (uses the same interface, etc.). I am just not seeing how that becomes "based on Windows" or anything else. How is it like saying "Microsoft Office based on AppleWorks"? I really think this is overreacting over nothing.... but then again I must just be an idiot.
