Prices will be comparable to Apple's iTunes service: $6.99 for five songs, the minimum purchase. Albums will cost $12.95. To appeal to a younger set, Starbucks will ultimately offer wireless downloads to laptops or portable players."
Umm, no, comparable would be .99 for a song, not 1.40. And a good hunk of albums are $9.99 (although the iTMS seems to be getting more and more expensive albums).
Starbucks could make shopping for music both legit and fun again. "There is no question in our minds that this is the future of music distribution,'' says Hal Gaba, who co-owns Concord Records with producer Norman Lear. "It's a significant enhancement of the iTunes experience.''
Woo, its no longer just shopping for music, its shopping for music while paying $5 for a freakin' cup of coffee while sitting in a room with a bunch of other 'trendy' people who actually have no problem spending $5 for a freakin' cup of coffee. Yeah, I'm sure it'll be loads of fun. Maybe I should go in there and start buying and listening to some good metal bands of the 80's. Drive them out of their comfy seats and out into the real world.
I'd rather have a cappuccino whilst downloading songs from Cupertino!

Who wants to make a bet they'll also use .wma? I wonder how much those "trendy" free thinking people like the idea of using a more restrictive DRM'd audio format?
I think the price includes the CD burning so $6.95 for 5 songs is a tad more but you get to burn the CD and leave with it...
still not a great deal...but there is some convenience ....
imagine....hanging out with friends...without a computer....you see a STarbucks open at 11pm....run in, buy a small CD....and enjoy the tunes on the way home...good thing is the CD will be able to be imported back into your mac withOUT any DRM.....
also...it'll be a good service to the non techies.....
hopefully they use HP computers...so it'll be with iTunes....
Most importantly, what quality will the files be.
Any DRM once burned on the CD ?
These kind of things determine if this is a halfway good deal or just plain stupid waste of money.
