Jobs gets $1 in $2003

Apple CEO Steve Jobs , as he has since 1998, and received $74.75 million in restricted stock in exchange for his outstanding stock options in March 2003, according to Reuters: "[Apple] did not pay Jobs, who is also a co-founder of the company, any new stock options or cash bonus in 2003. No other executive received stock options in 2003, Apple said. Jobs began taking a $1 salary one year after he returned to Apple in 1997, aiming to turn around the company he helped found. But over the years, other compensation for Jobs has been criticized, such as stock options and a $90 million jet...Employees received merit increases, the company said, but executives have not received increases in three years, other than through promotions, Apple said."

    It's about time

Jobs certainly deserves good treatment for what he's done for the company, but corporate executive pay is, in general, outrageously high by any reasonable standard. Hearing that nobody big working for Apple has gotten any raises (I have no doubt they're already getting PLENTY of money) makes me feel a bit better about the company.

I'm not quite clear whether this restricted stock exchange for Steve amounts to more pay or not, but despite everything he's done for Apple, I'm hoping not--after what he's made the past few years, $1 should be plenty of salary for a while. Not like the guy needs any more money, anyway...

    Do my eyes decieve me?

Is the "R" word banned? There was a poster called iRebound or something who made a "R" comment and it looks to have been deleted.

I say good show moderators. We needed your help, I was about to stop reading this site because of that lamer.

We don't need these childish games played on this news site.

Don't encourage the "R" word people, the joke is and was rotten to the core. Kudos to your efforts, much appreciated.

Back on topic, poor Steve, only $1.00. I can lend him a fin if he needs it :) Now if only I understood this stock market thing.

Re: Do my eyes deceive me

I wholeheartedly concur. MacNN was long overdue to start taking the comments section a little more seriously. I wanted to complain about the poor quality of moderation earlier this week only to discover that the only thread in the Feedback forum complaining about this had been turned into an opportunity to make sophomoric jokes--moderaters were participating too. I was about to give up any hope that whoever runs this place would care. Fortunately, change has finally come.

Back on topic, it's obviously hypocritical to take a $1 salary and then have one of the richest gift packages in the history of corporate governance. But I don't really begrudge Jobs his little airplane. Few CEO's have done so much good for their company in so little time. Long live King Jobs.

    Gotta love it

Jobs gets his $1 plus $75 million in stock, but hasn't given his executives raises for 3 years? What a jerkoff.

When you turn around a company with the size and importance of Apple computer, then you MIGHT be able to have any credibility in here. Until them, you are just a leeeetle beeetie troll.

    Damn...you got me again

You're kidding yourself if you don't think those executives also got lots of stock options.
