Pepsi: bottles with iTunes promo delayed

Pepsi says that the rollout of bottles featuring the free iTunes song promotion have been delayed beyond the initally expected February timeframe, according to The USA Today: "Specially marked bottles of Pepsi, Diet Pepsi and Sierra Mist offer free download codes in bottle caps. But they arrived in New York last week, four weeks after 90 million viewers saw the Super Bowl ad. The bottles have yet to show up in Los Angeles, the nation's second-largest media market, and won't get there until mid-March." The article also notes that Pepsi expects a 10% to 20% redemption rate from the promo and that the free downloads aren't counted in SoundScan's tallies, but that "adding them could bring Apple's total to around 75 million."

my local bodega has bottles of soda so old that they have dust on them (in the fridge)... they also have some Caps for Caps (hats) contest on some Pepsi products that I've never heard of!

Not to mention that they have some food items that are horribly out of date.

None of the food there is RIPE either.

They must have Apple Announcement Syndrome: announce a new product at a big event, get everyone talking about it, delay the start date, delay again, delay again...

Stores around here (eastern Washington) have had the bottles for weeks...If they can get the bottles out here to the sticks on time, what's the big deal with getting them to big cities?

Food for thought...

Will Apple extend the redemption window on winning codes beyond 4/30 since some regions are just now getting iTunes-marked Pepsi products?

Is Pepsi liable for any kind of penalties in the contract with Apple, since their ineptitude at distributing the marked products on a timely basis is detrimentally affecting the promotion?

I've found that the best place to find itunes bottles are in convience stores or the mommy-can-i-have-that displays at checkout counters. they seem to be stocked with newer bottles than the standard shelf space.
