    Oracle vs. PeopleSoft

    From C|Net site:

"The Justice Department filed a lawsuit against Oracle last week to block the company's $9.4 billion hostile acquisition bid for PeopleSoft. Oracle intends to challenge the suit, which contends that a buyout would leave large companies with only two software suppliers, Oracle and Germany-based SAP, to choose from and that prices would rise as a result."

    isn't Oracle dead?

    No,

    ...the Oracle isn't dead
...just the actress who played her in the 'good' Matrix flick.

    Video games

While violent, they never made me a criminal nor fat. Good parenting helped. Perhaps what we need is lessons on how to better parent, not restrictions on video games. Obviously parents are getting fat and too in debt to care enough for their kids anymore.

Now there's a poorly written article! The text actually says "followed by a panel debate, which concluded that scientific findings of the effects, if any, of violent video games were scant. ". The "make's children fat" part is simply a mother claiming that it is so. Let's at least get a little more solid info than that!

LIke everything else in parenting, it's all about balance and limits. Of course it isn't OK for a child to spend endless hours, day after day to the exclusion of everything else in front of a screen with snacks. But it also wouldn't be OK for the same child to spend endless hours day after day to the exclusion of everything else on baseball (even tho a lot of people wouldn't see it that way. After all, baseball's "healthy").

    re: baseball

plus, a lot of parents have dreams of their offspring making it in the big leagues, becoming millionaires and giving all their money to the parents so they can retire comfortably. some parents see their children simply as an investment in their own future.
