iPod creates $2B revenue

Merrill Lynch analyst Steven Milunovich predicts that Apple's iPod "could be the 'killer app' that ....In a research report Monday, he said the success of the iPod demonstrates Apple's 'tech know-how and strong brand' and could make the company 'relevant again,'" according to Dow Jones Newswires. In his report, he estimates iPod's revenue to come in around $1 billion this year, contributing 15 cents to per-share earnings and said that number could double to $2B by fiscal year 2006, adding 25 cents to the EPS.

    although

although he is right to a degree, the way the article is phrased is really stupid. besides the obvious terminolgy errors, reporting with this extreme "realist" hard edged style is just lame. it is pointless and takes away from the actual relevance of the story (No pun intended). the iPod is great and all, but the best part of Apple is OS X, and all apps for it. I mean i love working on here.

iPod is just something i ve come to expect from apple, nothing spectacular. maybe amazing for dell

    re: although

As a long time Mac user, I know for a fact that there are a lot of great things that came out from Apple. However, realistically speaking we have to admit that Apple a niche product because of more than 10 years of wintel dominance. Apple has failed to market its technology or in converting pc users to the mac.

The bottom line while PC industry has rapidly establihed a standard platform, Apple through out those years has resorted maintaining its remaining few loyal customers not realizing the greater potential customers. Thus, eventhough Apple does produce innovative products, to the rest of 98% computer users they all mean nothing.

Let's hope the iPod/iTunes would change all that.

    Relevant...

If your using XP, you should thank Apple. XP's Look-and-Feel are because of OS X, period. THey'd be happy making under-the-hood upgrades to Windows. But they rewrote the UI. Mostly because of influence from Apple (it has to come from somewhere, you don't think they got thier ideas from unix eh?).

Relevant? Apple's been there for a long time.

Profitable? Apple's been there for a long time.

Influential? Apple's been there for a long time.

Glad you've caught up. Now enjoy the ride, Merrill-Lynch.

    What's really amazing..

Is that Apple has finally left its niche and it has finally found a way to enter in the mainstream. Not by forcing its standard, nor abandoning theirs. But by introducing a new one.

    Relevant again?

Ooookay. I would like to see this industry without Apple.

Wait. Scratch that. Bad, bad idea. How's that for relevant?

    30,000 ? songs

Don't they mean 30 million, the story says "with Merrill's Milunovich estimating roughly 30,000 songs were sold from last April through January at 99 cents each"

    re: Relevant...

    Relevant:
Almost 98% of computer users can't use OS X, iMovie, iLife. They'll simply wait for a Windows version.
    Profitable:
After so many years did Apple finaly declare it self of debt free.
    Influential:
    Now your talking.
