bill has finally figured out a way to start the machine which will lead to the demise of Apple...or could it be just the opposite:?
The reality of backwards compatibility is pretty nil. We all have purchased upgraded game machines and how often do we keep out old cartridges around?? We don't.. why??? Cus we sell them with the old game machine to get the most money out of em.
Besides if I have pimpin hardware I don't wanna play old software!
Does this mean that we can expect a form of windows that runs of G5s? Could that be dual-installed with OS X? Could you even run this native Windows from within OS X, or switch between the two?
Wwll there used to be a version of NT for PPC, IIRC...
But you probably already knew that.
now hackers will figure a way to run OSX on an X-Box when they come out. All this for under $400.00, a triple CPU G5 system!!!
One thing to keep in mind about the old NT on PPC was that it wasn't binary compatible with Windows software for x86. I.e. you could run NT, but you needed to have apps that were compiled for the PPC version of NT to run on it.... you couldn't just run any old Windows app. Even if Microsoft were to release a new Windows OS for PPC right now, it wouldn't be worth anything until developers ported their stuff to it.
Not so far-fetched if you ask me.
Microsoft already has a version of the Windows NT kernel running on the G5 specifically for the SDK for the new XBox.

The XBox is my 1st gaming system since Nintentdo 64, so I didn't sell anything when I got an XBox. Of course with a new system I'd play all the new funky games, but I'm sure there are older games that I'd want to play. There's no way that I'll get through the XBox library and I'd like the option of dipping into the older library. If that option doesn't exist, there are dozens of games that I'd like to try from PS2. Even if it's just Gran Turismo 3, that's worth getting a PS3 over an XBox2

As a Apple user this is great news. The more IBM sells the cheaper the chips will get and the more R & D it will see
As an XBox owner I worry about backwards compatiblity. If it won't play my current games why on earth wouldn't I just get the PS3 when it comes out?
