Media 100 seeks buyer

today announced that it is actively seeking additional capital or a sale of all or part of its business, which may "involve a reorganization, and expects to make a more definitive announcement regarding whether or not such a transaction will occur within the next two weeks. In the event negotiations do not result in definitive arrangements in the short term, the Company may be required to cease operations." Media 100 says that it has not been able to achieve appropriate revenues levels to sustain operations. Media 100 sells video editing software for visual effects, sound design, interactive authoring, and professional editing.

Media100 was once a great product, and I was rather efficient with it. But anymore, people are using Final Cut Pro, so it doesn't really surprise me that Media100 has faded into obscurity.

    Apple or Adobe

Apple/Adobe could acquire Media100, or maybe a investment firm may inject some funds into media100.

    Pretty Sad

Media 100 has some decent intellectual property. (BTW, I own stock in the company - so SEC people, buzz off!) I don't think it would be in Apple's best interest to acquire their technology however. It might enable them to compete head-to-head with Avid in the NLE market space, but it may also distract them from more lucrative revenue streams that simple work for apple (i.e. iTMS).

Maybe Avid should purchase and shore up their bargain basement product line.

    Doomed to fail

Editing solutions based on additional hardware ultimately fail. The CPUs catch up too quickly. Let's hope some picks up the Final Effects plug-ins and keeps them going.
