People will stop at nothing to knock iPod off it's pedestal, including negative spin to produce Fear Uncertainty and Doubt about buying and using one.

Hm, I guess Sony is doomed too, because I use my Sony DJ MDR-V700's with my iPod. Guess if I get mugged this will be the next news item:

Sony's MDR-V700 headphones is not only popular with shoppers - it is also becoming increasingly popular with thieves. A series of muggings in Britain of people for their Sony MDR-V700 headphones has been reported, and experts warn the distinctive silver and black headphones could be the secret of its appeal to criminals. "Having big a** silver headphones might be stylish but they act as an indicator to thieves. You really are an obvious target if you use them."

What next? My Levis? My Docs? My Carhart?

    dear iFUD

i think what they are saying is that the distinctive white earphones are a dead giveaway that, since ipods usually come with those 'phones by default and hardly anyone else uses the same, that there likely is an expensive ipod somewhere on your person. it's not a lifestyle judgment, dumbass.
