Apple's take on the iPod mini's price and position

iPod mini pricing and more

In an interview with Macworld UK, Apple's iPod worldwide product marketing manager Danika Cleary . "The iPod mini is smaller and at a slightly lower price. It's very fashionable, so it may appeal to women or younger people who may not have considered an iPod previously," Cleary said. The article also includes an interesting observation from Edgar Matias, president of Matias, the company that makes the iPod Armor case:

"The Mac faithful do not generally understand retail. They argue that if you can get a higher-capacity iPod for just $50 more, why would anyone get an iPod mini? Ignoring all other factors, there is one class of customer who almost always buy the cheapest available option: gift givers. And for these customers iPod mini is an absolute win. From a merchandizing perspective the product's a stroke of genius." Pricing of the iPod mini in the UK has come under fire for being too high at £199, or about $375. Cleary said that price may be changed before the product's April launch in that country.

    nothing changes

Apple kit is always vastly overpriced in the UK.

Given that you almost get two dollars to the pound these days, the mini should be coming in at no more than £150, inclusive of VAT.

    Right on!

Aha! There's an argument I haven't heard so far. So all you people giving your spouses iPod Minis, it just means your cheap!

But this guy is right. The mac faithful don't understand retail. They just want what they want at their price, and if they won't buy it at that price, they think anyone who does is a zealot.

Yeah, cause if she wasn't g**, she'd be all over some guy who post "She's fu**ing hot!" anonymously on a web site.

    Ha ha ha!

BTW, it's not the cheap aspect that is selling these. It's the look and the size.
