iPod Mini launches Friday

Calling response to the "off the charts," Apple today announced that it will be available in the U.S. on Friday, February 20 at 6:00 p.m. at the Apple Store, Apple's retail locations, and authorize resellers. Apple also said that more than 100,000 pre-orders have been placed for the iPod mini, which will be available worldwide in April.

The $250 iPod mini comes in a choice of a silver, gold, pink, blue or green, offering 4GB of storage capacity. It includes a belt clip, earbud headphones, an iPod mini power adapter, a 1.2m 30-pin to FireWire cable, a 1.2m 30-pin to USB 2.0 cable, and a CD with iTunes 4.2 for Mac and Windows computers. Optional accessories include the iPod Dock ($40), in-ear headphones ($40) and arm band ($30). Laser engraving is available at the Apple Store for $20 and can include two lines of text with up to 23 characters per line. Apple said the iPod mini will be available worldwide in April.

    RIPE

I guess the world was RIPE for a 4Gb $249 music player. I would have never guessed it.

    Where's Your Messiah Now

Seems to me most of the posters on this board predicted total failure of this product. Too expensive, etc. Where are you all now?

    Wow

    That's a lot of morons. 100,000 strong.

Maybe apple stamps a free "iPod mini Moron" label on their backs after they leave the apple store?

    Price

    Gee, I guess 250 was too much . . . . Not

People are right that the price should be 200, but Apple knows they can get 250 for a few months, thanks to all of the fanatical early adopters (almost describes me). Most of us know to expect a price drop, with some patience. But from Apple's point of view, why sell it for a discount, when you will not even catch up to demand at 250?
    regards

    Just because

there are a lot of preorders doesn't mean the product will be successful. A lot of people oohed and aahed over the Cube when it came out too. Me personally, I thought it was pretty damn cool. But did I buy one? No.

Same thing with the mini. Great concept, cool design, but overpriced. Neat to look at, in a kind of 24-inch HDTV sort of way. But I would never buy one.

    Re: Wow

While so many were predicting it will flop at the top of their lungs, a few of us were saying a lot of people value size and weight more than extra capacity they don't need.

And you call them morons? Sure buddy. It must be nice to live in your little delusional fantasy world.

    FLOP

To all the a******* who said "where are all the people calling it a flop to be".

I for one never said it would be a flop, all I said was I wish it were priced lower so I could justify buying one to my wife!

    $300 for the 15 gig
    $250 for the 4 gig

I was hoping for a cross the board drop!

    $250 15 gig
    $150 4 gig

    etc.

All you fanboys can f*** off 100,000 in a country of 280,000,000 people? You call that a success?

Call me when they've sold 1,000,000,000

    RE:just because

woo, your comparison is off the chart.

At least $249 is affordable for most one, but 24-inch HDTV is way out of line, some of them couldn't even afford it.

Just because you are not buying it, that doesn't mean the ipod mini won't sell. But i think the price is going to be lower by the year end.

    BS

It will be successful because it's cool. It's cool because it's small and because it's apple, which just happens to be cool today. Yes, it's overpriced, but in a world where people pay $500 for a pair of shoes, $150 for a bottle of wine, $250 is pocket change. It will be big here in NYC where the little white wires have taken over the city. Personally, I use Etymotics, so my wires are black... ;)

    Just my 2...
