Quicken 2004 R2 Ledger bug

A MacNN reader notes a problem with the , released yesterday: "I spoke with Intuit Quicken tech support yesterday about a problem I had with Quicken since I updated to R2. The problem was that downloaded transactions were disappearing from my ledger. Tech support said it was due to the R2 update and suggested that I re-install the original program. I did and all is well now. Lesson learned: don't update to R2. The tech rep said that another update will appear in a couple of months."

    A couple of months?!

Jeez, you'd think that they'd be able to fix a bug a little quicker than that....

    no kidding...

it seems to me that is a fairly SIGNIFICANT bug, and that they should REMOVE the updater asap, and warn against installing it. i mean, transactions just disappear? that's the whole POINT of using quicken in the first place.

    A few months?!?

Why is the update still available on their if they know there is a bug? And, why will an update appear in a couple of months? Shouldn't they have said a few days?

    Typical intuit

"Hmmm, we screwed up our update. Well, install the original program - you know, the buggy one this update was supposed to fix bugs with - until we get an update to the update that was broken. But we can't be bothered with miniscule new problems. We're too busy ignoring the big bugs in our software."

BTW, I have Q2003, and they never fixed the net worth graph which show me having many, many, many more thousands of dollars than their net worth report. Their response: that'll be fixed in a future version...

    Another reason to switch.

...used Q 2002 on both my pc & my mac - there is a huge gulf - was thinking about the upgrade but given the reports of the bugs fixed & not fixed - will someone please tell me how we are supposed to get the message across to software vendors that 'ship & tell' won't cut it?

the pc version was so much better I am appalled - easier to use - better features H&B offers invoicing & even VISA payments... The 'look & feel' is so astonishingly different one might not know they were the same program (PC is better IMHO)

Can anyone suggest some decent, economic option for Mac books/accounting? Quicken has the promise but apparently never the execution? They expect you to buy but never seem to deliver?

    Worst software co. ever.

I am a quicken user for 6+ years, (mac, pc, and even quickbooks). It's my belief that Intuit should be lit on fire and allowed to burn, then it should crash into in iceberg, then some school-kids should be allowed to beat them with sticks.

They are the absolute worst, they don't care about a damn thing, i'm amazed they are still here. Either they dont know how to make dependable software, or they hire only morons.

Their software lacks consistency, dependability, and ease of use, it crashes at least once per session, and they seem not to care at all. Intuit online support is completely worthless, and then you get to pay for additional tech support (brought to you by even bigger idiots.)

Intuit profits more by charging for phone support on intentionally buggy products. They are in no hurry to fix anything...

    Intuit is a joke

Intuit just needs to fold their tent right now. I hate M$ as much as anyone, but I use Microsoft Money because I don't trust Quicken any further than I could throw it. It's a shame that either M$ doesn't make Money available for the Mac or that Apple doesn't give Mac users a decent and reliable Mac solution for personal finances. Until that time comes, I'll still have to keep a PC around just to run this one damn program. And yes, I've tried running Money VPC instead and it's way, way, way too slow....

    Build it...

...and they will come - if they would reformat & bugfix Quicken for Mac & add the H+B option I think they would have a real winner...

    Mac alternative needed

I used Quicken 2002 and 2003 on our new iMac 17". Suffered is a more accurate word.

Finally, I bought a cheap Dell laptop on eBay and I use that in my kitchen for web, email and M$ Money.

Quicken has lots of bugs. Not all are huge, some are very minor but drive you insane over time.

I love the one where it shows columns of data, and the columns aren't wide enough to show the full numbers -- and there's NO WAY to make it wider. You just can't see it. And when the text becomes invisible, that's fun. I hear that's because they are using old rendering technology and need to upgrade their code to use Quartz.

I don't know how they keep turning out full versions without really working right on OS X!

I do know this: No matter what they claim to add or fix in the future, I'll never use an Intuit product again.
