Pixar, others v. Comcast

A string of America’s biggest media groups, including Pixar, the animation studio, and the troubled Time Warner, are examining counter offers for The Walt Disney Company in an effort to spoil , reports Times Online (U.K.). Pixar -- whose chairman is Steve Jobs (also CEO and founder of Apple) -- was involved in a joint venture with Disney until last week. Pixar is understood to be looking to form a consortium of financiers to counter Comcast’s bid.

    I don't get it

Why would Pixar break ties with Disney, then try to prevent them from being acquired?

    Get it over with

After years of rumors of the Apple-Disney-Pixar merger and Jobs being the CEO - none of the belieavable - and not all of this - just do it - merge them all together - and let Steve run all three of them - and put this never ending rumor to rest

They don't want Comcast to be the acquirer. Going to be interesting to see if a group can even be put together that will have enough financial firepower to offer more than the $62b (no drop in the bucket). Some of this seems to be aimed more at ousting Eisner as CEO. Pixar breaking ties with Disney was sort of the 2nd salvo of moves (the first was when Roy Disney and another board director resigned expressing their lack of faith in Eisner). There is always this sort of behind the scenes strategy when it comes to corporate power struggles (sort of like the time when Jobs was still a company advisor to Gil Amelio and made his move. Larry Ellison (Oracle) made noise about possibly being an interested buyer of Apple and then Jobs sold all but 1 share of the 1.4+ million shares he had to send a message to the board of directors as a vote of no confidence).

    As long as

They get rid of Disney's "In the Vault" idea I'm fine with whoever acquires them. Well, maybe, except for Microsoft.

    remember NeXT?

Apple brings Steve Jobs in as a consultant, buys out NeXT, and now Steve is running Apple. Can Steve and Pixar pull off a reverse-takeover of Disney? Sure.. it'd be Good Thing :)
