PC Mag reviews iLife \'04

PC Magazine has published a , giving the suite of digital lifestyle applicaton 4 out of 5 stars: "GarageBand makes music mixing and song creation easy enough for any novice to enjoy yet produces results professional enough for real musicians to use on their demo discs..Software like GarageBand has been around for a while, but it's never been so easy to use. Record your music into GarageBand, then make it sound like any of over 100 instruments."

    Let the wining begin

    I haven't read the review yet. But from the glance here at MACNN, anything less than 5 star from a PC site will cause a bitching frenzy.

    what BS

    Typical Microsoft monopoly influencing PC magazine's review. Had this been an MS application, it would have gotten 5+ stars.

    I am so sick of evil Gates and his minions controlling the mass media while in cahoots with Bush and his Halliburton cronies.

    No Whining...

    I think this was a fair enough review. The population was just RIPE for software like this, and Garage band is doing a good job of filling the desire.

    what do you have to do...

    to get a 5 from these people?
    let's see...
    - 5 apps for $49 which the PC world pays over $200 for;
    ("More than reasonable price" is the understatement of the still-young century.)
    - arguably best in class on each existing app;
    - and a brand new world beater for music making
    (i've been supporting a music ed lab since the apple IIgs days, and
    this thing is a stunning breakthru - needs only midi import/export, which has been added with 3rd party apps and will likely be folded into the next release)

    BTW, Troy - it's "pitch bend" - not "pitch blend" pitchblende is a radioactive rock.

    Also - the difference between "blue" and "green" loops is not they they were created by live musicians vs being "created electronically" - it's the difference between a waveform (audio recording) and a midi sequence - which may in fact have been created by an equally live musician playing into a midi instrument, much like a piano roll - and we have some of those recorded by Gershwin, Paderewski, etc. back when they were alive. Go try to change a "green" harmonica riff to a flute, then try to change a "blue" drum sequence to any other instrument, and you'll see the distinction.

    Inaccurate...

    It says you can download the upgrade for $49. WRONG. You have to purchase it. Just another example of how they don't research anything before they write the article.

    Re; Let the

    I don't see how the review could be much better, unless they declared that iLife washed the dishes and wiped your a** after you take a dump. Other MacNN commenters really need to lay off a bit. It's a good review, repeatedly claiming that the software does more than its PC counterparts for much less $$$.

    Re:Ripe

    To Mr Ripe to be a dumbass.
    No wonder PC users think Mac people are nuts.
    With idiotic s*** like that...it's no surprise.
