Missing Sync and OSX

Mark/Space has unveiled plans for a new version of that enables synchronization between Palm OS Cobalt Smart Mobile Devices and Mac OS X. Due later this year (when the the first Palm OS Cobalt devices are expected to ship), it will allow users to connect and synchronize information between Palm OS Cobalt devices and Macs running Mac OS X via USB, network, WiFi or Bluetooth. The new version, which will support all devices based on Palm OS 4.0 or higher, will also include synchronization support for Tapwave Zodiac handhelds, iCal calendar events, to-do items, and Mac OS X Address Book as well as work with existing Palm OS conduits.

    Uh oh...

Does this mean PalmOne isn't planning to support Mac OS X anymore? This would be a Very Bad Thing™.

    Don't worry

I don't think this means palmOne is moving away from the Mac since they aren't the ones making the OS - that's PalmSource. palmOne is the hardware manufacturer and they're the ones who will (or will not) develop Palm Desktop for the Zire, Tungsten and Treo models. I think the article basically points to the fact that there are other Palm OS licensees, like Sony, that will not support the Mac. The important thing to keep in mind is that each licensee, including palmOne, will decide which platforms they are going to support. I, for one, am happy to know that Mark/Space is there to help folks out with "unsupported" configs...

Can macnn shut this RIPE guy up please. I'm going to have to stop reading the comments--He is on every single board everyday and refuses to take his medication or listen to his mommy or daddy.

    ripe

I'm one of the ripe guys, and for the record, I love Macs and I enjoy reading these comments. I don't think we're really hurting anything... we're far better than the Windows trolls, the racist trolls, and even the first post guys.

I was anti-RIPE at first as well, but it's actually pretty funny.

    Just lightnen up.

I love these guys, I bought this softare for my Clie but it's very disheartening that PalmSource won't update the OS X sync platform. C'mon guys - working iSync conduits are so hard to put together?

Actually, kid, it's not funny. It's annoying and assinine. You may be better than the Windows and racist trolls, but you are at the same level as the first post and "all your base" guys. The These forums are for providing legitimate comments on the articles, not for a tired "joke".

    It's a moot point...

...given that Palm and handheld devices are loosing market share to smart phones. I'd much rather see Apple put more effort into syncing with telephones than to worry about Palm. It'll soon sink in the miasma of dead products.
