    If they want to keep..

a name, they have to stop picking ones that have already been taken.

    So...

... I'm not sure if Mozilla is at 1.6, why Firefox shouldn't be at .99Beta yet? They must be adding different functionality rather than just 'splitting-out' the mail/browser components.

I couldn't be more happy with Mozilla 1.6 at work(Windows), but if Items like Safari 1.2 don't get released for OSX 10.2.x, etc., I can see the Mac community going back to using this browser instead of thinking Apple will keep their browser up to date!

    No...

Sounds like to me it isn't an issue of Apple not keeping their browser up to date, it's an issue of you not keeping your OS up to date if you're still running 10.2.x.

    new name

awesome. I like the name Firefox much much better than Firebird.

as far as I can tell, Firefox is not already taken either.

still though, it seems like Mozilla.org would be wise to have a public renaming discusion before making a decision like this. why do it all in secret?

Ben Goodger brags in his blog (http://www.bengoodger.com/weblog/archives/cat_mozblog.shtml) about all of the "hard work" that went into this naming process. I have absolutely ZERO sympathy or respect for their "hard work." They did what they wanted to do. They did it the way that they wanted to do it. They repeated many of the mistakes from their previous naming and renaming activities. Instead of doing it all inside their little private circle, they could have solicited input from the vast Mozilla community and would have had many more original previously unused names to choose from and some more logical reasoning to explain why the final name was chosen.

I like Firefox better than Firebird, but the explanation that they chose a Fire---- name so that they could use some of their flame related graphics and maintain a connection with the past is REALLY LAME. Why do you want to maintain a connection with the names Firebird and Phoenix? There is absolutely no value in the naming similarity between Firefox and Firebird; it only serves to remind us of the Firebird naming fiasco and the preceeding Phoenix naming problem. There are a thousand ways to incorporate flame related imagery without requiring the word Fire in the product name.

    Geesh

How many times to they have to keep renaming their freakin' browser???

And how come it isn't at 1.0 yet. I mean, are they re-writing that much of the Mozilla source tree?

    Yawn

let me know when it hits v1.0. I'm tired of trying out beta browsers, only to have to dig through them to find certain features not present yet. I tried .7 when it was released and had to toss it, as there was something in Mozilla I used a lot not in there yet (can't remember which feature it was, which means I'd have to traipse through the freakin program until I find it, then go "Oh, great, still not done, guess I got to try to go back to Mozilla").

    tabs broken

Am I the only one that has found that tabs are broken in Firefox? If they are it really doesn't speak much for their QA.
