According the armchair CEOs who had loads to say about the iPod mini, this thing should cost about $99 - I wonder why it doesn't?
Anyone care to comment why?
Cue all the idiots who will say the iPod mini is a good price after they look at this.
I will stop whining when I get a confirmation from someone that it's IMPOSSIBLE to make a flash mp3 player with a decent (512K-2MB) amount of space for $200. This report does NOT mean it's impossible- this company could be overcharging for their product just as much as apple does.
MacNN, how is this a "top story" before it's got hardly any comments? It's just a friggin mp3 player that's been released. Hardly a "top story".
Methinks MacNN is trying to start an iPod mini flamewar here so they can generate some more traffic for themselves. How lame.
Blegh, for the love of god, Apple is NOT overcharging for the iPod mini. If anything you could say they are undercharging. The new 4GB Rio Nitrus (Rio's comparable device using a tiny hard drive like the iPod mini) ALSO costs $250. Now, you could argue that Rio is also overcharging, but frankly, NO-ONE is making an mp3 player with this kind of hardware for less than $250..... so please stop it with this notion that the iPod mini is overpriced, because if it is, every other comparable device is also overpriced.
Go mini!!!
The ipod mini is just ripe to get optical outputs like the iriver...
Really nice, now that the early adopters have their expensive players, this is the way to get the rest of the music loving crowd to buy your gadgets.
Make a smaller capacity player more expensive. I just love it. That's just what I needed to take the step.
What's consumer logic meant to be on this one? "Don't wait for the price to get below $200, because by then they'll offer just about 256k for that price".
