Reader: Problem with Pepsi/iTunes codes

A MacNN reader reports winning a free iTunes song with the purchase of a Pepsi drink, but not being able to read the code printed on the bottle cap. "The code printed on the bottle cap is distorted and smudges as you loft out the cap liner." A Pepsi customer service rep acknowledged that there is a problem with the ink used in printing the code. Customers with unreadable caps are instructed to send the cap to Pepsi for a replacement code.

The cost of a stamp to mail in a liner starts defeating the cost savings (let alone how LONG it'll take!)

Better send it registered mail too! ;-}

I haven't had this problem. Of course, that might be because I can't find any of the bottles that have these caps yet.

I'd take the chance that the ink is bad if I could find the bottles participating in the offer...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a MacNN basher. (There's enough around here already!) I visit MacNN at least once or twice a day, and it's been my Mac news site of choice for a while now.

BUT...is nobody proofreading the news posts? There are always a lot of typos, and two in this article alone. I only mention it because it detracts from an otherwise great site.

What are you doing to the bottle caps?! You can clearly read the code without needing to remove the liner. If you can't, consider getting glasses, or a magnifying glass.

Go to the contest site. You can send them in postage paid, so you're not out any postage if you get an unreadable cap...
