    Everyone luvs PPC

Everyone is loving the power pc chips now...perhaps now we see the cost savings (or more R&D cash) for PPC chips? Let's hope.

    go macnn!

Way to state speculation as fact, and then on top of that... get it wrong!

MS has not "said" that they will be using the G5. And even if they do use an IBM chip (which is likely, but still not confirmed) it will no BE a G5. It is related to the G5, and designed by IBM but it's NOT A G5!

Do I need to repeat that? NOT. A. G5!

You make the rumors sites look like pulitzer prize winners sometimes.

Thats like saying that the G4 chip isn't a PPC chip because it's not a G5.

    Everybody LOVES the G5

All this G5 news and speculation is pretty amazing!

First Apple releases G5 machines, the press goes nuts... in a POSITIVE way.

THEN we get the 5+ million dollar Virginia G5 super computer hitting #3 in the world wide super computer list.

THEN Microsoft decides to use a derivative of the G5 (if rumors have any merit, 3 per box) in the next gen X-Box. WOW!

NOW we hear that Sony is actually INVESTING $362 million in IBM to supply, we should assume yet another G5 derivative chip for the next gen PlayStation.

    What's HAPPENING here?

    Gekko

the IBM Gekko chip is the PPC in the GameCube. It doesn't fit into Apple's G-naming system, but its still a PPC. I'm sure the new Xbox will use some PPC variant. and who knows maybe it'll be software compatable with the GameCube (both use PPC and ATI ? )

Also, if the new Xbox uses a 970fx variant for a console it'll probably be at around 1.6GHz or less to prevent loud fan noise.
