Mozilla firebird is my primary browser until Apple addressses this matter in a more satisfactorily. It doesn't give a flying hoot *what* the site wants me to be able to do. Also, Firebird's adblock lets me block ad banners; and it's faster. Right now it's a no-brainer.
SURE, LETS HAVE SAFARI AUTOFILL YOUR LOGIN/PASS FOR YOUR BANKING/INSURANCE/VARIOUS_FINANCIAL_WEB_SITES, EVEN WHEN THOSE SITES CHOOSE TO DISABLE IT FOR SECURITY. I MEAN *NOBODY* WOULD EVER BE USING MY COMPUTER WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE, AND BESIDES, I LIKE HAVING MY MONEY UNPROTECTED.
It is ok if a web designer wants to exploit this as long as you have control? That is like saying, "come on Apple" build a computer that runs windows.
You make it sound like a bug. It's not. It's an option. And a good one at that.
And that has nothing to do with telling Apple to build a computer that runs windows.
It's not a good option as it is only for others to make and not me that is a customer of Apple. It's similar in thinking to pop-ups that websites have but you couldn't control on previous browsers. I like control of my browser preferences, thank you.
If you don't like that Safari honors autofill disabling, then whine at your bank. Chances are it's their fault.
Of the biggest US banks, most have a history of blocking browsers which don't allow them to stop autofill.
I think safari costs too much. It should be free. Oh wait, it is free. My bad.
Why change your browser when you can move to a bank that has a website that lets you save your personal data in a cookie so you never have to remember your pin codes or SS#, etc? Maybe you can also figure out a way to disable your bank's session timeout so you can leave your account page open and unattended all day. That would save you from having to reenter your account login information as often. In fact, I think safari should give you the ability to change how any site works right down to the business logic on the on the back end. Why should you have some webmaster decide your account shoud show a particlar balance or get a particular interest rate?
Not to sound like a hypocrite but sites that use "one click" or similar one click puchasing systems are pretty dangerous.... a 3 year old could fill my cart with a G5, cinema display, and a powerbook without me entering a single password... At least that is what I told my wife happened.
CNN is running a poll today, 'are you a mac fan or a pc person'?

I agree with the last post about one click. My wife accidentally ordered $188 from Amazon because she wanted to load up her shopping cart to see how much it would all cost but then must have hit the one click button and ordered it all before she even knew what happened! We had to call Amazon to cancel it because we could not find away to do it online?
They told us if we didn't call fast enough that it could have gone in to shipping and then its too late. I went straight to her profile and turned off one click! Its a time bomb of purchasing just waiting to go off :-)

Autofill: not mac-like
But I don't WANT Safari to disable autofill. It used to honor MY request, but now it ignores what I want and does what some web designer wants for me. Not very Mac-like if you ask me. C'mon Apple, please allow ME to decide if I want it ON or OFF.
