nice they updated it, but what we really need is a totally new version:

    - full cocoa, os x style app
    - import and export all ms office docs
    - keep the nice, clean, minimalist interface
    - include for free with new macs, charge $49 otherwise
    - call it iworks. ;-)

    Maintenance update

This is more or less just a "bug" fix. No new features, no additional functionality worth mentionning. Looks like a stop gap... until iWrite?

    classic not needed

uh, you got some wrong info there, the OS X version does _not_ need classic or 8.1 installed to work. Classic?! What's that? ;)

OS 9 is dead! Long live OS X!

Still no Carbon Events, live window resizing. Waiting for iWrite...but hey, Appleworks works and there's still Open Office

    Where's v.7?

Damn, I'm still using the beta version for OpenDoc with System 7.5.1! I was hoping for version 7 sometime this century so I could upgrade my Mac LCII.

    iWrite

There is no iWrite. There never will be an iWrite. Stop your dreaming.

And there's no reason to completely rewrite the app for Cocoa. That's just some non-informed non-programmers dream that somehow cocoa apps are 'true' OS X apps.

    re: iwrite

well, then explain to us why most cocoa apps work and feel great (omniweb) while most carbon apps work and feel c*** (finder).

offer some decent info or shut the trap. dumb f***.

    Hmmm...

Omniweb was very poor for me... Mostly incompatible with critical sites...

Nice to see we finally have mouse scrolling... How many years after the release?

Is Apple finally going to release a wheel mouse?

    Needs to beat Print Shop

...or else stop trying. The new X version is pretty good, and quite simple. Integration with iApps is impressive.

One saving grace for Appleworks is the database function. Although limited, it does the job for small projects. But the competition in this market is blurred by capabilities and customer focus.

    Why bother

Why release an update to a product which has been at a dead-end for years?
