A good friend of mine had the same exact problem as you! He said he contacted Visa and explained the issue and they got his money back for him... I would suggest you do the same.
He doesnt have a BMW so he could not go with BMW's new iPod link (www.ipodyourbmw.com) but he did find another company that makes a universal link for less money than the vehicle specific icelink... you might want to check out the Neo iON (www.mp3yourcar.com) and see if it works with your vehcile. I have heard nothing but great things about it.

my experience
Although this seems like an awesome product, I will offer my warning. I received mine for Christmas and still do not have a working item. Even though the correct car information was given to them in the order, they shipped the wrong connector. I then attempted to contact them via phone and email daily for 10 days with absolutely no response. I was never able to get beyond an imcomprehensible message when calling them. I finally got an answer from them today when I decided to send my email to every address I could find at their company including the Administrative Contact listed in their web site's whois entry! When they replied today I found out that it will be another 2 weeks because the correct connector needs to come from their Europe supplier. Anyway... this may be a great item, but do not count on any support after the order.
